last Will and Testament Nuncupative of John Bottrell As he did then
declare in presence of William Bodennar, William Badcock and others as
followeth: First
he bequeathed his Soule to God and his Body to Christian buriall and
his wordly goods as followeth. Item
he gave and bequeathed all his goods and Chattels unto Rebecka his
wife, whome he appointed to be his full Executrix. Item

through the only merits of our Savior Jesus Christ to be made partaker
of everlasting happiness, do make and ordain this my last will and

I, John Hocking of the parish of Sennen, husbandman,
being sick of body but of perfect sound and memory, thanks be given to
almighty God for it, doe make and declare this my last will and
Testament this Twenty Eight Day of November in the yeare of our Lord
God 1685 in manner and forme following – I give and bequeath my Soule into the hands of Almighty God my
maker and redeemer, and my body unto Christian burial. I give and bequeath unto Margery, my Eldest Daughter, the sum of
Five pounds of lawful money of England. I doe give and bequeath unto Elizabeth, my second Daughter, the
sum of Forty shillings and all her stock she have upon my lands

This is the last Will and Testament of me, John Harvey the Elder, of the Parish of Saint Buryan in the County of Cornwall, Farmer.
First I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Michell, Widow the Sum of Thirty pounds to be paid her at the Expiration of Six months next after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named.
Also I give and bequeath unto my said Daughter Mary Michell the further Sum of Ten pounds to be paid her at the expiration of Six months next after my decease by my son Henry Harvey, and I hereby charge that part of my Freehold Estate in Trewoofe in the said parish of Saint Buryan hereinafter devised unto my said Son Henry Harvey with the payment of the said last mentioned Legacy of Ten pounds.

First I recommend and resign my Soul to its Creator in full and lively hopes through the merits and Mediation of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to receive remission of all my sins and my body to the Earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my son in law John Williams. First my Will is that my Just debts, funeral, and testamentary expenses be paid by my said son in Law, John Williams, as herein after mentioned. I give and bequeath unto my old Servant, Ann Ellis, one Annuity of Four Pounds per annum so long as she, and George Bosustow (son of William Bosustow of Lelant) shall both live, to be paid her in Quarterly payments, the first payment to commence and be made at the end of three months next after my decease. The aforesaid Annuity to be issuing and payable out of all my part of the tenement of Treave situate the south west side of the lane. I give devise and be unto Edward Jenkin of Treave all my part of the Tenement of Treave, called or known by the name of Treave Vean (except the middle dwelling House and garden belonging thereto and the meeting house which I give and bequeath unto my Son in Law John Williams) But the aforesaid part of the Tenement of Treave, called or known by the name of Treave Vean, shall stand charged with the payment of one eighth part of the Rent that shall become due to William Bosustow or his Heirs from time to time, and one eighth part of the tithe and one eighth part of the taxes, through in and through-out of the whole of my part of the Tenement of Treave situate in the parish of Buryan. I give devise and bequeath unto John Jenkin (eldest son of Edward Jenkin of Treave) all my part of the Tenement of Treave aforesaid situate the South West side of the lane and the house in which his father Edward Jenkin now lives, and one half of the Barn and one half of the Mowhay. But charged with the payment of the aforesaid Annuity to my old servant Ann Ellis as aforesaid, and charged with the payment of one half of all my Just debts, and with the payment of three eighths of the Rent that shall become due to William Bosustow aforesaid from time to time, and three eighths of the Tithe, and three eighths of the rates and Taxes through in and through-out on the whole of my part of the Tenement of Treave aforesaid. And also charged with the payment of one half of the expenses of keeping the Barn and Mowhay aforesaid in good and tenantable repair. And the aforesaid John Jenkin shall pay one half of my funeral and Testamentary expenses. I Give and Bequeath unto my dear Wife Margaret, in addition to an Annuity of Fifteen pounds per annum already settled on her by a certain Indenture of Settlement bearing date on or about the twenty sixth day of November last, and made between myself of the one part, and Francis Paynter Gentleman and my Brother George of the other parts; the Bed and Bedding thereto belonging now standing and being in the Parlour Chamber of the Dwelling House wherein I now reside, the same to be delivered to her by my Executrix hereinafter named so soon as the same shall be demanded after my death. I Give and Bequeath unto my Grandson John, Son of my Son John Berryman, the Sum of Twenty pounds of lawful English Money to be paid him by my said Executrix on his attaining his age of twenty one years. I Give and bequeath to my daughter Ann, wife of Leonard Paul Cocking, late of Redruth, but now of America, the Sum of Five Pounds of Lawful English Money to be paid her by my Executor herein after named if she shall live to return to England.
I Give and bequeath unto my son Thomas the Sum of One hundred and Fifty Pounds of like Lawful Money to be paid him by my Executor in the following manner that is to say he shall be paid One hundred Pounds within twelve months next after my decease and Fifty Pounds within six Months next after the death of his Mother.
I Give and bequeath to my daughter Eliza the Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Pounds of like Lawful Money to be paid her on her wedding day, or within twelve months next after my death: But if she prefer it, she shall receive Five per Cent Interest for the said One hundred and Fifty Pounds from the time of my death. And I hereby direct that her brother William (my Executor) shall and do provide her with suitable board and lodgings until the said legacy of One hundred and Fifty pounds be paid her or, until she is married. And I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Eliza the bed she now usually sleeps on, together with the bedding thereunto belonging or which shall belong thereto at the time of my death.
I Give and bequeath unto my wife Elizabeth Jelbart one annuity or clear yearly sum of Eight Pounds of like lawful money to be paid her by my Executor (in quarterly payments), who shall also provide her with suitable board and lodgings so long as she shall continue to live in the same dwelling house with my son William, my said Executor. But if at any time she shall remove from the said dwelling house to reside in any other but in that in which my said Executor, my son William, reside Then the said Annuity of Eight pounds per annum together with her board and lodgings shall cease and be void. And I charge my Leasehold Dwelling House and Premises in the Church Town of the said Parish of Saint Buryan which I sometime since purchased of my Sister, Ann Jennings, and also all other my residuary property, hereinafter given my said Executor, with and to the payment of the said annuity of Eighteen Pounds. And I Will that the usual power of Distress and Entry as regards the said last mentioned Leasehold Premises, with the costs and charges from time to time attending thereon for enforcing payment of the said Annuity of Eighteen Pounds, and the quarterly payments thereof, or any part thereof be considered as contained in this my Will.
I Also Give and bequeath unto my said wife the bed we now usually sleep on, or that which I shall be accustomed to sleep on at the time of my death, together with the bedding thereto belonging at that time. ADMON is an abbreviation of the phrase 'Bond of Administration'. Executors and assessors were bound, on oath and on penalty of loosing their money, to assess the property and finances left by the deceased. This was usually when they had died intestate i.e. without having left a will. A written example of such an oath for 1834 is given below.
